Vocal Local, Vol 1

The Vocal Local gives voice to issues and initiatives in the vibrant and diverse London borough that it is our home – Hackney! Join Rainbow Wilcox and Laura Yogasundram each month to keep track of what’s happening in the local area.

This month Rainbow and Laura cover the poolside arts event ‘Lido Love’, take a lesson from Stoke Newington School on how to talk to children about sexual orientation and tolerance, and find out how Hackney City Farm is supporting female refugees and asylum seekers find peace in the city through yoga.

Sisters of Mirthy, Vol. 1

London Field’s Radio’s alternative to Women’s Hour sees presenter-sisters Zoe and Becky bake up a sonic storm of music and debate, offering an alternative dose of feminism for Hackney-based grrrls.

In their first episode, Zoe meets the girls at one of Hackney’s last surviving female-run strip club to hear how the council’s nil policy on new clubs will impact on the girls who work there.

Becky traces the feminist history of Hackney, with a little help from Doris Day.

And the girls debate some of the nastiness of Valentines day, including naked lunching and door policy of some of London’s coolest nights out.

Plus, there’s a three-song medley on shops and a whole load of other female-led rock and electro action.
